The
obvious question when you start thinking about artificial intelligence
is the simple, "What is it?". Deceptively simple with
an easy answer and an almost impossible answer. The issue with creating
artificial intelligence is really about the understanding of human
intelligence. If you don't understand anything about how we think,
then how can you possibly create something artificial that thinks?
It is easy enough to create a simple emulation, but that is not
A.I. - you only get real artificial intelligence, when what you
have created exhibits independent examples of what we would consider
intelligent responses. There is much that needs to be written here,
both about fictional A.I. and about real A.I. All too often, the
real A.I. research has not turned out well, so we are still many
moons away from recreating what we have seen in fictions.
